The primary objective of Phase 2A is to provide reliable mass transit along ORR, a corridor that currently depends heavily on private vehicles and buses. By running parallel to ORR, Phase 2A is expected to reduce surface traffic congestion and significantly cut travel time between South-East and East Bengaluru. The corridor also integrates with existing and upcoming metro lines, strengthening network connectivity rather than functioning as a standalone route.
Bangalore Metro Phase 2B is the northern extension of the same Blue Line corridor, starting from KR Puram and moving towards Kempegowda International Airport. This phase connects East Bengaluru to North Bengaluru and the airport zone through a predominantly elevated alignment.
Phase 2B addresses a critical mobility gap: the absence of direct, high-capacity rail transit between the city’s eastern IT districts and the airport. Once operational, it is expected to reduce dependence on road-based airport transport and improve access to emerging residential and commercial zones in North Bengaluru.
