The Pink Line metro in Bangalore, Namma Metro Line 5, is the north–south line that runs from Kalena Agrahara on Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara on the Outer Ring Road, tunnelling under MG Road and Shivajinagar on the way. After years of shifting targets, the first part of it is finally close to carrying passengers.

Pink Line metro Bangalore: opening date and latest status (November 2026)

On 28 October 2026 the elevated Pink Line stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere received safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The inspection covered track alignment, signalling, traction power, emergency arrangements and the results of trial runs.

The opening date is now set. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya posted on 2 November that the inauguration will be on 13 November 2026, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to open the 7.5 km stretch. A Metro official quoted by Prajavani, as reported by Urban Acres, said public service would begin on 15 November, two days after the inauguration. An earlier report had said service would start the day after the inauguration, so check BMRCL’s notice for the first passenger train.

What we know about launch service so far:

• Trains: six trains to start with, built by BEML (one report says five to six).
• Frequency: every 6 minutes at peak hours and every 10 minutes at other times.
• Network: with this stretch, Namma Metro crosses about 100 km of operational lines.
• Fares: not published yet.

Pink Line route map and all 18 stations

The Pink Line is about 21 km long. The southern third is elevated along Bannerghatta Road. From Dairy Circle the line drops underground and stays there through the city centre until Nagawara. Use the station picker above for the areas each station serves.

Station names in BMRCL documents sometimes differ slightly (for example “Mahatma Gandhi Road” for MG Road and “Cantonment Railway Station” for Cantonment). The order above runs south to north.

Pink Line opening timeline: what happened and what is next

The Pink Line has missed several announced dates, so it helps to see the sequence in one place.

• 2020–2021: Tunnel boring starts on the underground packages, built by L&T, Afcons and ITD-Cem.
• January 2026: Trials begin on the elevated stretch with a six-coach BEML train.
• September 2026: BMRCL receives the fitness certificate after an independent inspection and moves towards Railway Board and CMRS approvals.
• 28 October 2026: CMRS clears the elevated stretch, Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere.
• 13 November 2026: Inauguration of the elevated stretch, with the Prime Minister expected. Public service reported from 15 November.
• Late 2026 onwards: Trial runs on the underground stretch, starting between Dairy Circle and Shivajinagar.
• 2027 (target): Underground stretch to Nagawara. One report links it to a May 2027 target that depends on signalling tests, platform screen doors and inspections.

Where the reports differ: earlier targets for the elevated stretch ranged from March 2026 to August and then mid-October 2026. Dates for the underground section have also moved. Plan around the stretch that has actually been cleared, not around a launch-day promise.

The three interchanges that change commutes

A single line helps the people who live next to it. Interchanges are what make it useful to the rest of the city.

• Jayadeva Hospital (Yellow Line): Pink Line riders can change for Electronic City and Bommasandra. This interchange works from the day the elevated stretch opens.
• MG Road (Purple Line): connects the south to the east–west line towards Whitefield and Challaghatta once the underground stretch opens.
• Nagawara (Blue Line): the Blue Line is the airport line on the Outer Ring Road. Nagawara becomes a junction once both lines run. Our Blue Line status update tracks its trials.

JP Nagar 4th Phase is also planned as an interchange with the future Orange Line, and Cantonment station is designed to link with Bengaluru Cantonment railway station.

What the Pink Line means for land near its stations

Most people searching for the Pink Line want one of two things: when they can ride it, or whether a home or plot near a station is a good buy. On the second question, a few honest points.

The elevated south opens first. Hulimavu, Arekere, Gottigere, Bilekahalli and JP Nagar get a working station years before the city-centre stations. That is the part of the corridor where the change is real this year.

The underground core is about access, not new land. Langford Town, Shivajinagar, Cantonment and Pottery Town are already dense. The metro improves access, but there is little open land, so most decisions here are about apartments and commercial space.

The north end sits on the Outer Ring Road. Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Kadugundanahalli and Nagawara gain a direct line to the city centre, and Nagawara gains the Blue Line junction later.
